Obtained Knowledge Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Obtained Knowledge

Obtained knowledge to receive and get,
Through means of higher education.
Or learned by taking steps,
Facing fears with them to test.
While keeping faith.
As a gift to others to pass on.
Has more of a beneficial value.
To a relative, close friend or someone younger.
Living a life budding to begin.
Than elaborating on one's youthful days.
Done to do repeatedly to review,
A past to relive when they were kids.

Reminiscing to do everyone eventually does.
However...
Sharing nothing about obstacles and negativity faced.
Or efforts endeavored to prepare for reality.
With wishes to dream and 'dreams' wanting to come true,
Takes lowering those high expections.
To allow the facts of life to arrive.
Uninvited.
Along with tears.
Clouding the colors of those rainbows.
Left after storms have diminished the bluest sky.
The torment. The pain. The witnessing of falling rain.
Unbearable are those 'boohoos' of life.
Coming unexpected.

Sitting on one's aspirations,
With this believed is all one has to do.
As wants and dreams are delivered.
Without applying initiative, motivation and desire.
To 'see' this visualized to occur as a requirement first.
With a rolling up one's sleeves to leave,
A thirst for delusions behind thought to be...
Necessary pre-requisites to achieve success.
Is more than good advice to suggest.
This may just be the best lesson to learn.
With ears and eyes to digest.
Before one gets burned by fiction and fantasy.
Purchased cheaply at flea markets.
Or overpriced to then tax.
At any shopping mall.

Know this to notice it.
Then dream for those wishes,
With more ambition and less bargains to find.
A life lived to experience it,
Takes chances and risks to discover.
And...
Little of this is discussed on college campuses.
Nearly none of this,
Is heard coming from pulpits or podiums.
And forget TV and movies.
Produced to addict and maim minds of those thoughtless.
Since fear to advertise and market,
Has for them been a very lucrative enterprise.
