Ode To Love

One who's loved sh'd be able
to put into words the sentiments
of a heart that's known its wonders:

Lovers are all poets while on the brink
of the incoming tide of a heartward slide.
Yet poets, knaves, Kings, Queens and slaves
all yield to the paucity of language
to define this God or Goddess-

Would they could forget ev'n more than they must
‘cause a sip from Cupid's cup
can make a fool of a prince;
leave only ashes of a flaming passion spent.

So lovers everywhere, hope with all your might
when passion calls, it's love that fuels this brew.
Unless... like the tide at its ebb
there's left behind only the bite of salt on a wound.

(Part II)

The most intoxicating thing
about this mystery fling
this unrestrained indulgence
of the heart-strings
when gliding and sliding
into arms abiding was...

Your kiss-
Like early spring when robins sing
and the earth brings forth its gifts
of colors and hues and everywhere
there's life, hope and newness.

Your touch-
More divine than anything
I'd ever hoped to know.

Your arms-
Enfolding me nearer to life's promise
than all my reveries combined;
closer to the stars than anywhere
I'd dared to dream.

Among the angels was I
knowing your touch,
gently brushing your cheek
Your hair, your lips - with my own;

breathing your essence into my being.
Your Nearness never near enough
Yet never far away though the breadth
of the universe be between us.

Knowing you underscores the whole
of existence for me. Oh, that my
most passionate wish for you transpires...

Nevermore to feel sad and alone
in a place you never made;
as I will not, since loving you
and knowing passion as God's greatest gift ~
When love is at the helm.
