Ode To Our Dog, Gretchen Poem by Joseph T. Renaldi

Ode To Our Dog, Gretchen

Rating: 5.0

We think of you with teary eyes and sadness.
Now, your hapless and sickly days are done,
And your life with us fared not so badly
For you were always a blessing and a lot of fun.

We never neglected or cast you away
During many trying and painful days you spent.
Our attempt to save you was the ultimate goal,
Believing that your passing away was never ment.

Unfortunately, tainted dog food led to your demise,
And medical attention was rendered every day.
Your illness caused you to become listless and thin
And we prayed for your recovery - fate was in the way.

The hair on your body became severely wirily,
Your Schnauzer's appearance was weary and wan,
Your body deteriorated and became unsteady,
And the gleam in your eyes was gone.

It was sad to see you repose your ailing body
On a soft blanket that you loved the best,
Often during the day, but mostly at night
When we all prayed and prepared to rest.

You were our loyal companion and best friend.
We were attached to you from beginning to end.
We will miss stroking your head in an amiable way,
And the fond memories of your life will never bend.
