Of Their Own Importance Poem by Francis Duggan

Of Their Own Importance

Of their own importance they seem all too aware
Men with big egos as we know never have been rare
When to others they feel superior themselves they delude
They don't know how to be nice though they know how to be rude.

Yet people with big egos we do celebrate
Movie stars and Presidents by many looked upon as great
They thrive on admiration and their egos grow
Yet to us they are strangers them we do not know.

The egotists as we know society does create
And the town's biggest egos others do inflate
Those with the biggest egos the most power do command
That this is a fact of life is not hard to understand.

To say that egotists are in majority would not be exactly true
To every down to earth person much credit it is due
An over inflated ego is not a healthy thing
Though it is of such people the praises many sing.
