Oh Father Poem by Je'free Y .

Oh Father

A universe of difference stands between funerals
Of a beloved from the outer circle
And of an immediate beloved.
I am not only tasting the concoction
Of grief, relief, gratitude, fortitude,
But I am uncovering the source
Of its bittersweet flavor.

A million times in my head, I've anticipated this;
But the actuality of loss, as it unfolds, is
A dark midnight like I have never experienced.
The light can only be traced hidden somewhere
In the memories and legacies,
The reasons, wisdom, inspiration to subsist.

Mother, I can never replace father;
But I hope you see that love is love,
Packaged in different forms or shapes;
Like your pain versus my pain, still pain -
Impossible to put into words for no one has
Attempted to create the precise adjectives yet.

Life has once more emphasized its severity
With its velocity and fickle-mindedness.
Have I truly said every word I wanted to say?
If either you or your beloved has not yet gone,
I tremendously urge that you say what you mean,
And mean what you say
For I am a witness to an inevitable end;
And the most regretful moment in life is
Realizing what you truly had only in its absence.
