'Okay' Poem by Persephone Springs

'Okay'

Smiles, giggles, stupid Facebook posts and make-up
These are all the things I use to keep people from asking
'Are you okay? '
'ofc'
But sometimes, only sometimes, I want someone to understand
Understand that I am not 'okay' and respect that
Understand that when who I am, who I want to be, and who I say I am are 3 people who have never met
I can never truly be 'okay'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I think we all make a mistake by hiding from the ones who care for the most. We never want them to see us hurting or vulnerable, but really, we aren't afraid that we're too weak, we fear that they are not strong enough.
