Old & Tattered Heart Poem by Amber Elzey

Old & Tattered Heart

My world was shattered
my heart laid lifeless on the floor, old and tattered

The pain
I couldn't explain
It hurt so bad
to see you with another person and to hear her kids call you 'dad'

you don't love me
you kept me around because it made you feel guilt free
free from the guilt of missing my most important years
I grew up without you, now you realize your worst fears

your little girl is all grown
and now she has a family of her own
praying that maybe
she won't forget about her dad because of her baby

wishing she would come around more
but now you realize that was her old and tattered heart laying on the floor
