On Not Quite Finishing
You put down an author
with the end in sight,
like I did with Bleak House,
and he won't think you're treating him stiff;
nor will he if you put him down,
like I did with The Vivisector
and Chuzzlewit, with the finish
not just in sight, but in whiff.
