Once I Get Out Poem by Mark Hopwood

Once I Get Out

There is a place I can only dream about
One day I'll live there, once I get out
All I have to do
Is build up my hope and lose all this doubt
Then I can get out.

Once I find my confidence and manage to stand up
I can pick my own direction, forwards and then up
There's a world out there, just spinning away
The world within me will start to turn one day
Then I can get out.

Now people are starting to turn away
So maybe its all too late
How can I free myself they say
If I can't even open my gate.

But I will do it, they just must believe
I just need to be out of this place
Then I'll be able to leave
And close the door on these doldrums forever
Once I get out.
