One Day I Woke Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

One Day I Woke

One day I woke
And
Questioned to myself
‘Why have I woke? '

‘When all the woes
Surround me; and
The Past be
The least I want remember
Turn away
At each its every incident.
Why have I woke? '

‘I
in a sub-conscious
Dream and world
Was breathing:
There at least
The arrows of the conscious state
Were I to see
Could not touch me.
So let me go back
To that state.
I cannot and will not
Feel the stinginess of
The conscious level
And/or its heartbreaks
I cannot bear'

So said the Voice
Trembling and
Fading
More fading
Went
And
Distant breathing
Till
Again it sank
Into the sub-conscious
Dream and world
Was breathing:
There at least
The arrows of the conscious state
Were I to see
Could not touch me.
So let me go.'
