One Year Ago Poem by Tiffany Arrington

One Year Ago

All it took,
One glance,
One simple kiss,
I fell for you again.

Not knowing the truth,
Wishing we were together,
Knowing this couldn't be true.

Waking up beside you once morning,
Riding with you to my school,
Texting you not getting replies.

Waiting to see you that night,
You never show up,
Knowing something happened.

Dreading finding out the truth,
Never finding out,
Waited for a phone call,
Even a text,
Never got one.

Not knowing what happened,
But giving up hope,
Going on with life.

Went to church one sunday with my mother,
Bowed my head to pray,
Looked up, and there was an answer from god.

Your father was there beside me,
Waited until the end of church,
Caught up with him,
Asked him about you.

He told me,
My mouth fall open,
I could not believe what he said.

I asked for your number,
He gave it to me,
I texted you,
Waiting for a reply.

You texted back,
I knew then that all my answers would get answered,
You told me,
I wanted to cry.

Hearing all the military stoires about you,
What happened to you,
Where you had been,
Made me reliaze that somethings happen for a reason.

You came home,
Had the picture of me in your wallet,
You can tell it's been through a lot,
But to me...

It was god and that picture,
keeping you alive,
in war,
in everything.

Now your home for good,
We're engaged,
Soon to be married,
and it seems like yesterday...

When a year ago,
stated.
