On a hot summer night,
Sweaty limbs in a tangle
Among muffled sobs
and rugged breaths
Out of many one
swims the longest swim
and forms a new life.
As the red leaves fall
and the days grow short
Under the shadows of
Burning oak
Out of many one
Takes her hand
and plants a kiss on her lips
Under the cold blanket
of heavy winter smog
out of many, one
Cells turns irate
growing, growing, growing
invading, multiplying
Metastasizing
As the curtains draw close
The final stage of play
On the bleached hospital bed
In a morphine heavy daze
she sheds a tear
for the one, out of many
she could never hold.
