Overwhelming Evidence Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Overwhelming Evidence

...and, your honor.
If I may.
I would like to make my final statement.
In defense of my client.
With it hoped his reputation.
You will see fit justice should restore.

"I'm all ears.
You may continue."

Thank you, your honor.
This has been one case so unique.
And rare.
To say the least.

If,
One has been has been labelled...
Falsely.
For having their fingerprints,
Allegedly claimed.
To appear all over an empty cookie jar.
And those cookies once in it,
Have been discovered missing.
The likelihood of those cookies,
Reported to authorities to be missing.
Were not cookies at all.
But an alternate vision,
Believed to have been seen by the baker.
Who,
In fact.
Had been a candlestick maker.
And before that bragged,
About being an experienced Indian Chief.
Who performed exorcisms,
In an abandoned apartment.
Located near the Brooklyn Bridge.
I rest my case.

"Well.
You have provided overwhelming evidence.
I see no reason,
Why your client should endure...
Another second of harrassment.
I am appalled to hear anymore,
Of this vicious attack on your client's integrity.
This case is dismissed."
