Own Thoughts Poem by David Self

Own Thoughts

When the world closes in
Where have you been.
Is it a life if you live in sin
When it ends it goes in the bin.

It's a life full of words
Wish you could just fly away like a bird.
I find at times this life hard to walk,
And a life hard to talk.

It's the things I don't want to remember
Going back way past many a September.
But when things are still here,
Living with that fear.

It has a different mask than before
Never washing away like a shore.
Madness is doing the same thing on repeat,
And expecting a different feat.

I'm trying to help and be there more,
But I find myself with more to store.
My life seems no easier in my head,
From the pain a limits I once had going to bed.

We swap a battle with gun and a bomb,
For a minefield in our mind.
We struggle with everyday things,
Wishing the battle was still…it still stings.

I will be there I hear ppl say,
They can't be there to live that to keep it at bay.
Like I said it's a life full of words
And it's a battle in this world.

Physical or mental the battle is real,
It's a job to get up to earn your next meal.
We smile at the world when things are hard,
Pretending that it's all ok.

But our life's are different behind that,
We tread lightly in our day.
We need to keep things at bay,
Before its to late we will end up to say.
