People Need People Poem by Ogolla Enock

People Need People

There is a reason Paul asked for Timothy,
Not to pray or fast, but to come to him quickly.
There's a reason the man by the pool of Bethesda
was sick for years despite being
well-positioned in the house of healing.

There is a reason why Moses refused
to move an inch unless God went with them
There is a reason why Christ incarnate is called
Emmanuel - God with us and Christ crucified
cried "My father, my father, why has thou forsaken me? '

There is a reason why people live together.
Sharing houses, streets, resources and etc.
Not because there isn't enough space
in the universe for everyone to be a hermit
But because people need people.

People have knees, they too can pray
and only they can best describe their desires
to God who listens indiscriminately to all prayers.
Yes, people need the Lord, not once but always.
but only when He is near not far away

Prayers are noble they lift up the soul.
But prayers without proximity, can't bring
the Lord near. Gifts and well-wishes are good
and appreciated, but they can't replace the need
or fill the space of people in one's lives

Proximity matters. People need people.
Not spectators who critique from a distance
or visitors who pass by and pray
but people who stay to carry them through.

Grew skies turn to gold and grief grows old.
The sun sets and opens the gates hell.
But when the sun rises again, the only things that
will matter are the hands that pulled, the lessons learned
and the people who stayed and carried you through.

Because people need people.
Not spectators who critique from a distance
or visitors who pass by and pray
but people who stay and carry them through.
