People You Meet Along The Way Poem by Linda Engwall

People You Meet Along The Way

Why is it that we feel the need
To rewrite the story when it ends

Everyone we meet along the way
Will shape us,
Teach us,
We will learn when we can,
Still the lessons are always there
Whether we choose to pay attention or not

I think you dishonor yourself and your story
By trying to change what happened
And it all happened for a reason

Simple by the virtue of what you needed
This person in your life at that moment
Even though they are not meant to stay
Does not make it any less real
Or meaningful

So let’s not succumb to telling a story
As to why it didn’t work
Or placing the blame
It was never suppose to be forever
Just another person along the way
Helping you to become the person you are meant to be

So thank them and wish them well and be on your way!
