Pine Forest Poem by Sohan Prasad Sharma

Pine Forest

Deep in the forest of Pine the floor full of needle so soft.
It is cozy when you snug and the needle neither do punch.
Silent I stood and heard some movement the louder as it came near.
The women of the village with Doko and namlo collecting the pine (needle) .
Damp under heap of needles, above dry and fine and do prick sometime.
I know why the collection and what is the use and its application.
Up and down the hill they move collecting the needle, cone and the twig.
Full with needle and cone, above balanced is the bundle of twig.

The pine is heaped and let to rot to change and become manure.
The twig and cone dumped under the roof to cook the food.
The tall pine tree so ghostly yet underneath is all serene.
The squirrels play hide and seek and in ecstasy make love.
sometimes the wild and the big give a roar and in turn give fear.
The bear, the tiger do pass by yet the pine always stand bold.

The pregnant Pine is sometimes axed open for the oily womb.
Turned to twigs and at night stuck burning slantly at the wall.
It works as lantern at night and helps children to read and write.
The older with in its light cook the food and children read the book.
It give us light and for the land the needles work as manure fertile.
Nature also provides for those who have comfort less than in city life.

Note... Doko- is a basket like object made of bamboo in which things are put and with the help of namlo the load is carried at the back with the namlo supported by the forehead.
Namlo- -Round rope like structure bit broad in the middle which put on the forehead and a doko attached at the back of the person with the help of Namlo. This makes easy to carry things at the back of any person.
