Please Forgive Me For Running Away Poem by Nathan Smiths

Please Forgive Me For Running Away

I ran far, far away,
I did not want to face you,
Still you loved me all the same,
Please forgive me for running away.

I tried to see what you saw,
I tried to match all your little quirks.
Yet all my efforts were in vain,
The only thing I could do was run away.

And so I ran far from you,
I tried to hide from the truth.
I will never see the world as you do,
This is why I must run from you.

I broke your heart, I beat you down,
Yet you still tried to calm me.
I do not deserve you and I never will,
Please forgive me for running away.

I do not deserve love,
I do not deserve pity,
This is why I ran away.
God have mercy on me.

I left such carnage in my path,
I broke every rule I ever had,
Yet in that chaos you still stood
Hoping that I would come back.

I do not deserve you, my dearest friend,
I hope that one day you find your peace,
Forget that this damned soul ever existed,
Please forgive me for running away.
