Poetic Reverence Poem by Sujay Sam

Poetic Reverence

Rating: 4.5

The flame within that lights my soul ablaze
Withers to the smell of smoke over an empty grave
Tears that drenched eyes to conceal sunset over the streams
I failed as a dreamer; I failed to even dream the dream.

The casket met by this grotesque barren personage
Overlooked from the shadows, perceiving over such a crude visage
Lays an abomination to abuse such morality, it waits, it dwells
Lo, It is I who betrayed me; I who wouldn't deprave me of such self.

Where, oh where are the years of such homely tenderness?
Their words, it stirs yet the sound of silence am I convicted to witness.
Isolation pardons me welcome, adorned with the grimness upon me smeared.
I become the man I've run away from; I become the man I feared.

The grave of the memoirs sings songs that reprehend my being;
Songs of yesterdays to haunt the shallow heart it seeks to sting.
For repentance shant decree one of such burden seven times sevenfold;
Lo, dims a fading light in my soul; dims a fading light upon my world.

Then came a man who offered the gift of heavenly memorabilia
These tear stained eyes couldn't perceive through such divine incognita.
Yet He stretched forth His hand, leaned forward he whispered, 'Follow Me.'
All of a sudden my eyes were opened to see; All of a sudden I realized I was free.

Bewildered and puzzled, I questioned Him again and again.
Did He know who I was? That such love for me still remained?
'Your debts are now loss, for I died for you at the cross. ', I Intrigued.
'If the Son of Man sets you free; the Son of Man has set you free indeed. '

Then all of a sudden, a peace surged from above;
I was lost in the presence, in awe of such transcending love.
Basking in my epiphany, all that was vile had died.
The fire within came back to life; the fire within burnt bright.

The fire burns with my spirit, with increasing intensity;
The flames never wither, fuelled with a spiritual ecstasy.
Rekindled poetic passion for life, love, word and deed.
This a poets most revered decree; This a poets most sacred creed.
