Poetry Is.... Poem by J.D Lynch

Poetry Is....

Poetry is not what it is taught to be, it's not just a bunch of lines set to a rhyme
to express a point and read in a coffee joint. It's not meter, it's not beat,
it's what you want it to be, anything. It's a polyopoly, it has different meaning
for different beings. It's taking a beer can littered in a park and turning it in
to a socioeconomic struggle. It's taking a fall tree and starting a fire.
It's thinking of your love and creating a world based on it. It's not hard,
it cannot be graded. It cannot be taught, but it gives us something to be
in school a lot longer. It breaks the chains, it breaks the reigns. It turns
the mundane into avant-garde and the avant-garde into mainstream, it's
to blame. It's not stringing words to sound artsy, it's to inform, persuade,
and entertain. Poetry is what it is and it cannot be labeled, manipulated, and
it doesn't follow ordinance. It is more powerful than us, and gives us a breif
time to look past the human condition.
