Poetry: No Painting A Portrait Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Poetry: No Painting A Portrait

Painting whilst a picture of a tree,
You paint not just as you see,
Nor yet copy nor imitate,
The scene seen within you translate.

If you merely copy,
It's just photography.
So you study what it conveys,
And transmute in so many ways.

Not replicate what's seen by eyes,
You render what it signifies.

The same thing spells with poetry,
Your head talks just about the tree,
Yet, in many a ways discreet,
Your heart would try and interpret.

Painting is just as the object is but in poetry poet's imagination makes it more beautiful.

Well, dear poet Akhtar Jawad, while I see the point you make, in painting also it is not always 'just as the object' as you say, at least no more with the modern interpretative paintings. During the age of the so-called Impressionist period, it might have been so. I must thank you for visiting this poem with your valuable comments.

Not replicate what's seen by eyes, You render what it signifies......right concept. A beautiful poem is touchingly presented. Thanks for sharing.
