Poor Darren Poem by Francis Duggan

Poor Darren

I heard her say poor Darren but Darren is not poor
Worth more than a million in assets and financially secure
Words can have many meanings such is language one must suppose
Some-times a beautiful woman is referred to as a Rose.

He is not financially embarrassed Darren that much of him I know
I know him just in passing only just by a hello
I do not socialize in his circles the middle to upper middle class
Each to their own one must suppose though I see rank as crass.

When I heard her say poor Darren methought what does she mean
For Darren is financially well off far poorer I have seen
Perhaps she meant poor Darren in some other sort of a way
For he is one who is not poor though poor I heard her say.

I heard her say poor Darren one might say with tongue in cheek
For when she mentioned him as poor 'twas not of poverty she did speak
The word poor can mean many a thing depends on what 'tis said about
'Twas not of his financial state that she did speak of that there is no doubt.
