Present Poem by Amber Egan

Present

Rating: 5.0

Feeling the sounds, swallow
I am here. Together with the rest of me
All here.

I feel it all, skin on canvas, colours showing
I am here, the pulse of my world in sync.

Fingernails ticking, comfortable noise.
I explore and familiarise, gas, tea, it seems
These small home comforts are all I need.

Today I woke up and now I scratch a head
Now, I scratch ahead. Silly!
It’s all over me and over there,
So sure of these words and thoughts, unapologetic.

Belonging and longing, but silly!
Silly happy. Im laughing.
Forgive me, if you want
For I have shaken it off, caring.

Im ECSTATIC, don't help me
Im feeling, wanting, everything.
Join me, if you want
Your ignorance irrelevant.

And now the rhythm of this room
Lifting me, pulling and drugging
High and stupid! Uneducated.
I am trying! Join me, Im laughing.
