Mandolyn ...

prick my heart to see if it still bleeds

use the pitchfork-
bring the band around
and tell them to play
when the shade
hits my eyes at the right time-

when you're standing over me
a blade smiling into the glare,
the glint of everything we had,
still have, dangling like a thread
from my black sweater

you shove a timezone between us
and pardon my language
as i scream into the bark of a tree
that listens to me
better than you-
