Prison Poem by Shawn Caine Hampton

Prison

I'll tell you now i've commited no crime.
Yet here i am doin time.

I'm locked inside a barless prison.
All because i have an addiction.

There is no escaping this cell.
I've been condemned to a life of hell.

There was no court to order conviction.
Only a pill to begin this addiction.

I've been judged time after time.
All by friends and family of mine.

In this prison i'm the only inmate.
I've seen no guards, i guess they're late.

Even with no guards or a wall.
There is no escaping this prison at all.

From the first pill came this sentence.
On that day i began my pennance.

How i wish someone would set me free.
But that is something that cannot be.

I've been sentenced to a life of addiction.
Because i made one bad decision.

In this prison i've spent many years.
And caused the shedding of countless tears.

There is no escaping this living hell.
Cause i'm sentenced to life in this cell.

A cell filled with pain and agony.
Oh how i wish someone would set me free.
