Prisoner Of War Poem by Sasanka Sekhar Panda

Prisoner Of War

Grey and pale
everywhere hung the smoky darkness
heavily
and the sharp cruel blade
of the sentry's bayonet
thrust to the lifeless air
of the whole concentration camp.

O' prisoner!
where is your sweet home?
the love and sorrow of many a moments?
your bones witness and uphold
only the torture
everywhere are painted
the sad mockings
and abstract alien faces
stare at the void
that is your face.

Everywhere are pierced
the forced discipline
and silence
only cruel silence.

Who knows
one day
time will chain your enemies
also helpless
and throw them
into a deep gorge of oblivion
rootless
unlamented
unremembered.
