Puppet Ii Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Puppet Ii

I sung you a lullaby
Promising you the stars
A piece of the moon
And naming a cloud
After me and you
I spear at the darkness
As it attempts to steal you
Not a brush of black
Will ever get past me
To get to you
We wore masks
So we wouldn’t be seen
There were no mornings
But frost and ice
Of every forsaken evening
Then, like the breeze
You stole away
Into the unforgiving night
Nobody held me close
Nobody kept me warm
After all I’ve done
Like a used puppet
Old, alone and forgotten;
I was abandoned.
