Quitting Candy Poem by Paula Glynn

Quitting Candy

Those old men,
With desire in their hearts,
An old story,
As if woven by time,
But in my time,
I am quitting candy.

I have had enough of those lies,
I am tired of faking emotions,
When I look into,
Those old men's eyes,
For I am quitting candy,
Starting today.

Men who drip with sour sweetness,
Women like me,
Who taste the sour without the sweet,
And be repulsed,
No matter the night hour,
No matter him feeling randy,
But now I am quitting candy.

Men with oily hair,
Men with clean hair,
Men with dirty clothes,
Men with clean clothes,
Men who repulse me,
But who will never know,
And for these men no care,
So I quit candy,
And so say, beware,
No attraction,
No love or desire,
No heart on fire,

For candy can be cruel,
Candy does not matter to me,
I will not surrender,
To their flirting,
When all I am is hurting.

Candy fooling me,
Having once felt sweetness,
Where I was his weakness,
But betrayed I was,
Now I don't care for a because,
Because today,
In the here and now,
I am quitting candy,
Where I never need drink brandy,
As I walk along the beach,
Love waiting for me,
Love within my reach,
A man that does not repulse,
And a man that never does insult,
For when I quit candy,
Happiness came out to play,
And now I am here on a sunny day,
Freedom from fake love,
And freedom to treasure this real love.
