Rachel Poem by Angelica Duardo

Rachel

She cries for what is gone
Both of them are dead
Each, a stab in their chest
Each, a soul that now rests

The houling,
The cries and the fear
The death you can smell miles away

Wishing a bleak faith for herself
Wondering how she will survive this
Rachel kneels by her boys
Crying for God to bring them back to her

Doomed every boy under two
Their lives will be taken away
And nothing will make these men stop
They fear for the one that will come

I wonder if they now what’s going on
They’re taking lives on the wrong side of town
That kid, the one with the light inside
Is safely sleeping in the arms of his mother

And Rachel cries kneeled for her boys
She still doesn’t know what they’re looking for
Innocent souls were lost that holy day
But a greater one was calmly dreaming the horror away
