Realization Poem by Rocco Dominic

Realization

As I lay down in my comfortable bed
I throw the covers over my head.
I think of what is and is not
As well as things that should be forgot.

Friendships, lovers, family, and flings
The thoughts come together and give me wings.
These wings don't fly in our earthly sky
but over the things your mind doesn't normally pass by.

I come to realize that I have fought
Over people of legends and piles of rot.
Both on the ground look luminescent and cher
But when I see them from above I realize who's barely there.

When it comes to some people ignorance is bliss,
Not wanting to see a fake friendship or an artificial kiss.
They say it's best in a way to live like a child
With a mind so naive and a head so beguiled.

But they haven't flown over rivers of the mind.
Their eyes aren't open, their hearts are blind.
They can't really live to their fullest potential
With relationship choices that aren't fully prudential.

Now, as I lay here with the knowledge of who really matters
These realizations tear me to tatters.
Even as it hurts, the pain goes away
And leaves me better off to face a new day.
