Red Wine And Honey Poem by Eugene Levich

Red Wine And Honey

Rating: 5.0

Some women are like red wine and honey
Others like nourishing bread.
You are Champagne—
1907 Heidsieck,1928 Krug, or Perrier-Jouet

And, with a different fate,
You might have become
My warm baguette
Fragrant, crusty, and delicious
Pride of a Parisian bakery,
A delightful life-long companion
To me, and to that
1907 Heidsieck,1928 Krug, or Perrier-Jouet

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The title for this poem was suggested by the following poem by Amy Lowell:

Decade

When you came, you were like red wine and honey,
And the taste of you burnt my mouth with its sweetness.
Now you are like morning bread,
Smooth and pleasant.
I hardly taste you at all for I know your savour,
But I am completely nourished.

Ooh la la, Red wine, Champagne and honey, Make a baguette hearty, giddy and funny.

are you recounting a woman who did NOT become your crusty wife? crusty doesn't sound like something a wife would like to be called! ! ! favorite lines: And, with a different fate, You might have become My warm baguette i think your warm baguette got lucky when she met you, or was it MORE the other way around? i liked this, even there was no mention of ice cream! :) bri
