Redemption Poem by Philip Geoffrey Lock

Redemption

Finger in the dirt.

Must hurt; torn skirt
Down on the floor, down on your luck
They all know the score, all know the muck
Exposed, all shows, wilted rose, big fall
Final call, that's all folks, life chokes
Heavy yoke finally broke ya down
Condemned. No amends. Any friends? Out the door.
Those laws, those stones - gonna break your bones
All alone. Ya done, and you're to blame
Oh the shame, scarlet letter, heavy fetters
Maybe death is better. You're through.

Then he speaks, what's he say?
Can't hear through the tears
On ya cheeks and away, and the fears
Can't even pray. Death leers, and dismay
It appears and it reeks. The end must be near.

Finger flies up dust.

And you're busted. Tears blear, cos the fear
It just stopped. And those stones, they all dropped
Still in shock. Confounded, look around at
Being found. His eyes on you. Is he crying too?
Is this true? Or just a ruse? Cos he alone can accuse
But stop the blues, cos instead he lifts your head
And takes your blame and all the shame
And you don't even know his name, but your heart glows
And it shows, clean clothes, white rose, no letter
All better. You're renewed.
