Refusal Poem by Gillian Commerford

Refusal

In the rain
a sense of wonder
comes over me
a sense of the numinous
a feeling of wholeness
a feeling of joy
so that I almost take my shoes off
and pirouette among the puddles-
all that stops me
is the fear of what others might think
and say
and therein lies the pity-
that when life asks me to dance
I refuse it.
