Remembrance Day 2009 Poem by C Richard Miles

Remembrance Day 2009

Rating: 5.0

Though they may stay forever young,
Those killed by bullet, bomb or gun
In deserts of Afghanistan,
Their mourners age like any man.

Though time may dull and blur the pain,
The loved ones left, those that remain
Will still remember, year by year
Those that they lost, those that were dear.

Though scars may heal and bruises fade
Still sacrifice is also made
By comrades who served side by side
With those now gone, with those that died.

For they must grieve for soldiers lost
Who gave their lives, who paid the cost
That they themselves might have to pay
If one stray bullet came their way.

So let us, on Remembrance Day
Think of those lads, so far away,
Yet pray for peace, time and again
So we may soon lose no more men.

How I agree with you Richard, This is a lovely poem and one with such good thoughts about those who gave their lives. I was honoured to read it. Bless them all. Love Ernestine X.
