Request For Joy Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

Request For Joy

JOY can simply be explained,
As Jesus, Others, then You!
It's like the prayer of Jabez,
Humbleness pours right through.

Jabez pled while on his knees,
Oh Lord, enlarge my coast!
Keep me free from evil,
And bless me Lord of Hosts!

We have not because we ask not.
So just ask and it will be yours.
As it was given unto Jabez,
More land, and strength, and herds.

He asked not of a selfish heart.
For he freely gave and cared,
For widows and more helpless ones.
God’s love for them he shared.

He cared not for returns or fame,
But for salvation unto every name.
For when he had but naught to give,
He called to God so others would live.

And if we pray in that same way,
Our coasts will enlarge this very day.
Our hope in God is for our best.
Please Lord like Jabez,
Grant our request!

Jabez was an Old Testament hero
1st Chronicles 4: 9 &10
