Respite Poem by David Aslin

Respite

Dark as my room in the mid of the night,
the brief flash of light only to magnify the shaddows upon the wall, just to tourment and torture me more
The creatures that crawl up upon my wall, circle around and are trying to claw, bite and gnore upon my tormented body and soul
Lashing out the darkness tires to reach for my heart, i've nowhere to run - to back away, but only dark corners can i run
There is no daylight within this living hell, no respite from its stalking, consistant hounding, every little sound pounding
The clock, it ticks, whilst angrly inside cogs grind, springs wound tight, attempting to untwist and tear away from its pining rivets, driven through its spine - i hear them all

When is the time - that i will hold you again?

You are not full of life
You are but life
You are not the water from which i drink
You are the moisture within the air
You are not the smile upon my face
You are the thought
You are not the life within my heart
You are the impulse that makes beat
You are not the the sun which dazzels so bright
You are the light every time that i close my eyes
