Reunion (For Diana) Poem by Sue Stone

Reunion (For Diana)

Rating: 5.0

A million times,
I have watched you run the sky’s breadth,
with mane tossed, foam flecked clouds,
that urge you ever onwards.
And finally
We meet again.

I lean forward,
to the liquid stillness of your eyes.
Your languid glance of sideways recognition.
The chestnut dappled dampness of trust, thrust forward,
A nuzzle of renewed connection.

A million times
I have dreamt of this reunion.
My equine Amorata
Time, like distance, has parted us.
Your flared nostrils whisper warmly of shared history;
A time of partnership more equal.
shoulder next to flank.

A million times
unbridled joy spurs us onward,
With no rein to draw us back.
You urge me upwards, skywards
And finally we are free.
