Revelation Poem by Gert Strydom

Revelation

Worms had gnawed holes into leave upon leave
of my vegetables
and to me the vegetable garden was totally ruined
but about the intruders I wanted to know more.

I considered wiping them out,
to find a way to come to the rescue,
but to a new realization I did come
when the beauty of butterflies astounded me

where they were appearing from cocoon upon cocoon
with gauze-thin wings that were spreading out
and suddenly my aversion had ended
when I got a glimpse at the wonder of new life

and my attention was drawn
on a creature spreading its wings in flight.
