Revolutions Poem by Jordan Victoria St. Cristi

Revolutions

Rating: 5.0

We drink tea
from unknown origins
bringing bitter sweet warmth
to our lips
Inhaling the seductive nuance
of leaf

So powerful it could start a revolution

I know
because my ancestors were there
when we thought freedom was something
we could win in battle
that war itself
doesn't manifest
servitude

I think of this
while I sleep in my car
that the greatest revolutions are silent
and will never make the nightly news
because real power comes
in making life
not taking it
but the patriarchy would rather hide
its barren hope
that it could be
any other way

In the end it doesn't matter
because mothers don't do it to brag
we do it
because we can
