Rhyme And Reason Poem by Travis Snell

Rhyme And Reason

Rhyme and rhythm,
Rhythm and rhyme,
Meter and measure,
And keeping time.
These are all the things we do
To make a poem seem to chime.
But we don’t know that the message is
What makes it sound so refined.
You can rhyme,
Chime,
Dime,
Time,
Climb,
Whine,
Fine,
Wine,
Sign,
And define!
But if it don’t make sense
You’ll sound dense,
Like you don’t understand the difference
Between sense
And cents.
Rhyming words and assonance
Can hardly seem to come from whence
The deepest thoughts and truths dwell, hence
We must be careful my poet friends
Not to sound to sound too ignorant
Just so the rhyme will be content.
We have to stand up for our words!
Let them be heard!
This ain’t free verse!
We can rhyme,
Chime,
Dime,
Time,
Climb,
Whine,
Fine,
Wine,
Sign,
But we make sure we refine,
Because when we sign
Our name on the dotted line
Where it says poet,
We show it,
And you’ll know it.
Because you’ll hear our message,
Not just our words.

Strong work...and an equally strong ideal to live up to in writing! Thanks!
