Rhyme Verse Is Dead Poem by Francis Duggan

Rhyme Verse Is Dead

As verse it is seen as out of fashion and those who pen it not destined for wealth or for fame
It would seem it has passed it's use by date few things in life do stay the same
Rhyme verse is as dead as the dodo that's what literary critics do say
Suppose it did have a good innings since everything does have it's day.

In ways I must seem quite old fashioned since I am a lover of rhyme
The past I do seem to be stuck in I belong to another time
I do love the old poems and ballads to them I can clearly relate
They speak to me in a plain language love, life and Nature they do celebrate.

The face of art and literature is ever changing as the Seasons to life come and go
The old poets I loved in my schoolbook of nowadays few do wish to know
I must be an old fashioned person at least I feel that way inclined
I cannot keep up with the changes of the now I am lagging behind.

Rhyme verse is as dead as the dodo and has been for many a year
And time with it always bring changes at least that's how it does appear
Rhymers nowadays are seen as poetasters and rhyme does belong to the past
But suppose it did have a good innings for few things in life seem to last.
