The blue slate surface
Of a great river
I observe and admire
Each morning as I travel
Often sunlight sparkles on the surface
And reminds me of
That hope that comes with new love
And for a moment I am restored
Currents can carry us along
With such power we cannot
Save ourselves any more
As from love unexpected
This river runs north to the sea
Ancient, strong, ever flowing
Into greater deep blue waters
And someday so will I
