Road Accidents Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

Road Accidents

Why do we
Always blame
Our drivers
For our
Road accidents?

Yes, many of them
Are at fault -
Driving rashly
On forged licenses,
Talking incessantly,
Listening to blaring
Music that pierces -
Our ears deafeningly
Also,
Speeding fast to
Overtake others
Even if it entails
A straight road
To death ;)

But we pedestrians
Are no less careless
Flouting road rules
Crossing wherever possible
And while crossing
What do we do?

No, we don't look
Left or Right -
As we should do
To keep ourselves
Safe and aware of
Oncoming traffic.

But instead,
We keep texting
On our mobiles,
Saying ‘Hi's
And ‘Bye's to our
Friends aplenty…
Without realising
That one road crash
Can make us lose our
Limbs or deliver us
Straight to Lord Almighty ;)
