Russian Advertisement Poem by Gert Strydom

That finances are extremely difficult,
that a Russian patriot has not got enough money to buy groceries
and stand before a difficult decision,
to sell his precious old Lada-car
and find it very difficult to sign it off,
at a give away price to which he is forced to agree,
is expressed, that his grandson will come to the rescue,
is not considered by the man that wants to do him in,
when he comes across them and stops that transaction,
as he has just joined the Russian army:
he is bold, heroic patriotic where he honours his granddad:
he has decided for a better life for the whole family,
where in reality children do go to be canon-fodder,
he will probably never again stand next to his grandfather.
