Sacrifice Poem by Josh Burnett

Sacrifice

I have sacrificed myself in order for you to see that you could stand by me.
I have fallen to the bottom just so you can see me and help me up.
I have stood there time after time waiting for you to turn around.
I have watched you go through this life wanting to be loved.

I called out your name but when you turned around you couldn’t see me.
I screamed through your mind but you thought it was just your thoughts.
I tapped you on the shoulder but you wouldn’t look.

This is my sacrifice, I’m giving this one more time.
This is my sacrifice, I’m waiting for you to look.
This is my sacrifice, I’m wanting to embrace you in my arms.

I waited for you to see me standing there, but you never looked.
I waited for you to hear my call, but you never heard the words.
I waited for you to see me there, but you never turned in my direction.

I called to you and you didn’t listen to the love spilling out of my heart.
I called to you and you didn’t notice whose voice it was.

You were looking for me this whole time, and I was right behind you.

This is my sacrifice, I’m giving this one more time.
This is my sacrifice, I’m waiting for you to look.
This is my sacrifice, I’m wanting to embrace you in my arms.

Can’t you feel the tingling sensation when I whispered my name in your ear.
Can’t you feel the hair on your back raise up when my breath hit you on the neck.
Can’t you feel the warmth of my fingertips touching the skin of your arm.
Can’t you feel me crying out for you to stop and look at me.

I wish you could feel me ever so closely by your side.
I wish you could hear me ever so clearly in your ear.
I realize that you are not listening to me.
But you keep searching for me to come around.

I am already there by your side, just open your eyes.

This is my sacrifice, I’m giving this one more time.
This is my sacrifice, I’m waiting for you to look.
This is my sacrifice, I’m wanting to embrace you in my arms.
