Safe Harbor Poem by Lora Colon

Safe Harbor

Rating: 5.0

Pondering the ruins of the day
My heart flees to a distant shore,
Searching for comfort in the night
I knock upon my loved one's door

When his heart has been tossed and dashed
By misery's violent form,
Our dreams will provide safe harbor,
Where together we brave each storm

Though our hearts mourn separation,
Defeat cannot wield its cruel blow,
Our thoughts entwine to overcome
This dreaded and relentless foe

When the sweetest verses of love
Fail to find their way to my poem,
I need only to think of him,
How quickly they find their way home!

As we take to our lonely beds,
Each night finds us praying for sleep,
How else to bear the heart's torment
Of longing that reaches so deep?

Should the moon taunt this hapless love
That will never see light of day,
Tightly we keep our curtains drawn,
In the dark, love will find its way

The untouched rose is still fragrant,
The unseen bird still sings as sweet,
Two hearts won't be denied their due,
Though Fate decreed they'll never meet
