Saying, 'Goodbye' Poem by Mark Clinard

Saying, 'Goodbye'

Could only I have another day
To hear you breathe and sigh
Run I would in every way
And embellish your reasons why

To hold you in my arms again
And see your awkward smile
Tongue and cheek against my chin
Your attention I would beguile

Busy work I lay aside
Your toys would be my jewel
'Go' would be my battle cry
Our hearts would find renewal

Be as it may I am willfully told
Only could I have another day
Death would find its weary scold
Over again, I would loose my way

Rest your eyes from weary pain
Your presence always near
Sorrow, one day will refrain
And joy will come to bear

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
We lost our small dog, Petee to unexpected cancer back in January of 2013. He was the life and joy of our family. We miss him so much and I just felt compelled to write these words.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

And such beautiful and heartfelt words they are. I lost my cat to a cancerous tumor almost 4 years ago. Had her 17 years and still miss her everyday. My heart goes out to you and yours.
