Schooled On School Poem by Ima Ryma

Schooled On School

The urban ghetto is where I
Was born and raised and went to school.
My parents tried hard to supply
Me with faith as a useful tool,
That if I tried as best I could
To use resources the schools had,
I'd keep on learning what was good
For me and keep away from bad.
Even when friends of mine did leave
School, telling me it was a waste,
I stayed in school and did receive
An attitude of feeling graced.

My sons and daughters I do yearn
Will have the will I had to learn.
