Seasides Poem by Suzanne LeslieBailey

Seasides

The blue bejewelled shimmer of the sea
Gleaming from the kiss of the sun
Beckoning me, seducing me to come hither

I strip myself, donning my birthday suit
Instead of a bathing suit
And immerse myself into its watery prison
Letting it hold me captive
While its liquid sapphire caresses my body

Like Judas, its fluid lips can plant the kiss of death
With strong gusts of wind
And dark clouds pouring out their tears
The sea, its ugly head rears

Whipped into a frenzy
Frothing at the mouth
White foams dripping from its lips
Arms waving high
Seeking to pull me downwards into a salty grave to die
Where pirates’ treasures lie buried from their plunder
And angry white sharks swim, consumed with hunger

I splash and thrash against the tide
Fearful of being taken on this turbulent ride
I manage to wrestle myself free
Recognizing this ebb and flow
Are simply the changing sides of the sea
