Senorita Poem by Rusty Ed Gibson

Senorita

I met her at the local pool
I was showing off
trying to be cool
She was a real Texas beauty
a sight to behold
a brown eyed cutie

I asked for her number
and she told me to call
It didn’t take me
very long at all

I headed out in the rain
a three mile walk to see her again
We held hands all afternoon
We laughed and talked
and it was over too soon

She gave me a wink
and a little kiss
Told me to come back
when I had a chance

After that summer
came the fall
We went to school
and I played ball

She was always there
my biggest fan
She would come to my games
and we would dance
We had ourselves a real good time
back in that summer of 79

Her daddy had a house
down by the lake
I would walk to see her
until my legs ached
I would do anything
to see her smile
even walk alone
those three country miles

We saw each other
all the time
She said she would always
and forever be mine
But we were so young
almost blind
We didn’t quite make it
to the finish line

I’m the King of Broke Hearts
the prince of tortured souls
Guess you know how the end
of this story really goes

We both grew up
and went our own ways
She got married
and I moved away
I came back
but she was gone
Isn’t that just like
a country song

I am still Payin
for all my mistakes
and who I was
in my younger days
somehow I manage
to get by
but I can still see her
when I shut my eyes
She is very beautiful
and oh so fine
just like that summer of 79
